The York College Panthers Wrestling Team was chosen to finish first in the KCAC this season as voted by the coaches. York had three wrestlers picked to win their weight class: Robert Ozuna (SR/Omaha, Neb), 125 lbs, (SR/Omaha, Neb), Nicholas Meck (SR/Topeka, Kan), 174 lbs, (SR/Topeka, Kan), and Jack Murphy (SR/Bakersfield, Calif), 197 lbs, (SR/Bakersfield, Calif).
All three wrestlers are previous NAIA National Qualifiers, with Meck becoming the seventh NAIA All-American in Panther wrestling history. Murphy and Ozuna both redshirted last year, and are looking to capitalize on their freshness this season.
DeAndre Neroes (JR/Dallas, Texas), 133 lbs, (JR/Dallas, Texas), Lupe Jimenez (SR/Gilroy, Calif), 141 lbs, (SR/Gilroy, Calif), and Adrian Ojeda (FR/Henderson, Nev), 157 lbs, (FR/Henderson, Nev) were each picked to finish third in their respective weight classes. Justin Dyer (SR/Topeka, Kan), 149 lbs, (SR/Topeka, Kan), Austin Coy (JR/Swink, Colo), 165 lbs, (JR/Swink, Colo), and Noah Manly (JR/Chelsea, Mich), 184 lbs, (JR/Chelsea, Mich) were each chosen to finish second. Pierce Mederios (FR/Mountain Home, Idaho), 125 lbs, was picked to finish fourth in his weight class and Dayne Thomason (FR/Blackwell, Okla), 285 lbs, (FR/Blackwell, Okla) was projected fifth in his weight class.
Head Coach Ramon Diaz said "I'm excited to have three individual wrestlers ranked first in the conference and overall first as a team. The guys are working hard and it's going to be a great season."
The Panthers open up their 2017 season in Baldwin, Kansas on Nov. 5. They will be competing in the Dan Harris Open.
