YORK - The York College Panthers (1-13) suffered a 3-1 loss at home early Saturday afternoon against the Bethel College Threshers (3-6). Both teams came into the day looking for their first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference win and the Threshers walked away victorious.
The first set went into extra points as the Threshers won. Bethel started out strong with a 7-1 lead, and the Panthers surged back to tie it up at 22, but it wasn't enough as the Threshers went on to win 27-25.
The Panthers controlled the second set as they got out to a 13-8 lead and held it to go on and win 25-17. Bethel pulled away in the third and fourth set winning 25-20, and 25-19 as they earned their first KCAC win of the season.
Molly Little (SO/Billings, Mont) led York on the attack with 12 total kills followed by Cassidy Wilson (JR/Moore, Okla) and Taylor O'Brien (FR/Aurora, Colo) with 9 kills each. Kelsey Taylor (JR/Moore, Okla) had a match high 25 digs for the Panthers. Makenzi Kissman (FR/Aurora, Colo) led the team with 20 assists, adding 15 digs and 8 kills to her resume. Bethel's leaders at the net were Katie Neira with a match high of 16 kills and Abby Kurtzer with 14 kills. On defense, Taylor Buessing led the Threshers with 22 digs.
The Panthers will look to snap their losing streak on Monday when they host Southwestern College at 6 p.m. for yet another KCAC bout.
