Billy Damon (JR/Reno, Nev) struck out 11 batters on the mound and hit two home runs to push the Panthers past the Tabor College Bluejays 12-7. In four games against Tabor this season Damon has hit two home runs in each for a total of eight. He also has picked up two wins on the mound and struck out 16 batters.
Damon struggled at the start as he allowed five runs in the first two innings before settling in to his zone.
Timmion Hughes (SR/Vallejo, Calif) started the offense as he hit a leadoff home run over the left field fence to cut into the deficit 3-1. Lamar Smith (SR/Rodeo, Calif) hit an infield single and advanced on a bad throw before a sacrifice fly by Nick Carney (SR/Pleasanton, Calif) brought him home.
After the Bluejays took a 5-2 lead in the second the Panthers tied things up in the third led by Damon's 15th home run of the season. Josh Roman (SR/Newark, Calif) followed with a walk before Isaiah Bond (JR/Union City, Calif) hit a two-run home run that tied the game.
Tabor went back on top in the fourth with a two-run home run by Abdiel Alicea, but that would be it for the Bluejays' scoring. York took the lead in the bottom half of the inning as Damon hit his second home run of the night before Dylan Roller (JR/Lee Summit, Mo) doubled in Roman and DB Vidal (SO/Livermore, Calif) hit in Bond to go up 8-7.
In the fifth inning Billy Johnson (SR/Oakland, Calif) reached on a one out walk before Damon was intentionally walked with two outs. That decision would come back to bite Tabor as Roman tripled to deep right scoring two more runs.
Another run in the sixth and seventh gave the Panthers their 12-7 lead that they would keep securing the win over the two seed Tabor Bluejays.
Josh Roman was a perfect 3-for-3 and Hughes and Smith each had three hits for the Panthers. York scored 12 runs on 19 hits and stranded 14 base runners in the offensive showcase.
Damon picked up the complete game win for the Panthers allowing six earned runs on 10 hits.
York advances in the winner's bracket and will face Sterling College Friday night at 7 p.m.
