YORK - The York College Track and Field team is competing at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships this weekend in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Panthers took 12 qualifiers to the meet.
Ashley Dugan (JR/Spring Hill, Fla) qualified in the long jump with a jump of 5.40 meters to meet the qualifying mark for the NAIA event. The English conversion is 17'8.75". Her jump broke the school record and is a personal best.
Dean Simon (SO/Hudson, Fla) will be competing in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Simon is currently ranked 11th in the nation in the 60 with his program record time of 6.87. He has yet to lose the race this season. He also ran a qualifying time of 22.23 in the 200 meter dash that has in in 18th place going into the championships.
Mason Held (SO/West Fork, Ark) will also be running the 200 as his time of 22.11 has him ranked 9th in the country. His 600 time of 1:20.14 is currently ranked 4th in the country.
Joseph Ventry (SR/Omaha, Neb) will be competing in two events as well, both of them being in the field. His best high jump of the season came at the Scott Nisely Memorial and met the qualifying standard with a 2.01 meter mark. In conversion that is a jump of 6'7". He also qualified in the triple jump with his first place finish at the National Christian College Athletics Association Championships. He jumped 14.00 meters, 45'11.25", to meet the standard.
The Panthers also have two relays that will be competing at the championships. The men's 4x400 meter relay is currently 14th in the country with a time of 3:22.43. The relay team consists of Evans Francis (JR/Omaha, Neb), Carter Price (FR/Rapid City, SD), Peyton Horton (JR/Centralia, Mo), and Mason Held. Sheyi Ajiboye (FR/Houston, Texas) will be the alternate.
The 4x800 relay consisting of Levi Swenson (JR/Benkelman, Neb), Caleb Magner (JR/York, Neb), Kyle Wynn (FR/Waukegan, Ill), and Cameron Sorter (JR/Seaside, Ore) is currently ranked 9th in the nation with a time of 7:52.71. The team ran their fastest time of the year at the NCCAA Championships.
The championship event runs Thursday thru Saturday. Both relays will be in action Thursday for the Panthers as those prelim races run back to back at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. All of the individual events for York will be on Friday and Saturday.
