Ottawa, Kan - Nicholas Meck (JR/Topeka, Kan) went undefeated in the 174 pound weight class at the NAIA South National Qualifier to earn his automatic berth into the NAIA National Wrestling Championships. Meck, 17-0, cruised through his bracket before beating the number two ranked wrestler in the nation with a 7-2 decision. With Meck's performance during the event he was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the meet.
Meck was the only Panther to earn an automatic berth to the national tournament field. There is an opportunity that other wrestlers could earn a wild card berth into the final event of the season. Those wrestlers will be chosen on Tuesday by a national committee.
Jeff Albers (SR/Topeka, Kan) and Noah Manly (SO/Chelsea, Mich) finished just one place shy of automatically qualifying with their fourth place finish. Austin Coy (SO/Swink, Colo) and Oscar Marin (SR/Arvon, Calif) each finished in fifth place.
