YORK - The Tabor Bluejays knew it was going to be a battle when they came into the Freeman Center Saturday night. Their players came in ready to play as all five starters scored in double figures for the Bluejays, led by Julian Winton's 30 points, in the 99-90 win over the Panthers.
York College was looking for the upset over 24th ranked Tabor but was unable to match their intensity throughout the game. The Bluejays held a plus-five advantage on the boards and were plus 19 on points-off-turnovers. Keith Mack (JR/Chicago, Ill) led York with 25 points and eight rebounds but couldn't pull the Panthers any closer as he was in foul trouble late.
York cut the Tabor lead to three points with just over a minute to play in the first half before the Bluejays went on a 6-2 run to finish the half up 49-42. York was unable to get closer than six points throughout the second half as Michael Johnson (JR/Orlando, Fla) hit a three-pointer with just over a minute to play to cut the deficit to six at 92-86. A well versed Bluejays team was able to handle their free throws down the stretch and pull away with the nine point win.
The Panthers are currently in a three-way tie for second place in the conference at 9-4. After being on a six game conference win streak the Panthers now find themselves on the other end having lost two in a row. York will look to get back in the win column as they travel to Bethany College on Wednesday night for midweek action.
