YORK - A back and forth game all night came down to the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs from McPherson College controlled the final frame to take the 62-57 win back to Kansas.
The game had 14 lead changes and three ties as each team garnered an eight point lead. It was the Bulldogs timing of their lead that came into play as it was in the fourth quarter, while the Panthers saw their largest lead midway through the second.
Justine Manjarrez (JR/Montebello, CA) led the Panthers in scoring as she came off of the bench to score 14 points. Greer Kleber (SR/Walnut Creek, CA) added 13 points and five rebounds, as Kendall Fike (FR/Byng, OK) notched a career high 12 points and five rebounds.
Jesse Ponoema led the team with five assists and Jerraysha Smith (FR/Alamogordo, NM) was strong defensively with five rebounds and four blocks.
Foul trouble caught up to the Panthers as Smith fouled out and Fike and Kleber each had four late in the game. Having the post players unable to get many minutes down the stretch allowed the Bulldogs the 20-14 edge in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs did have an advantage at the charity stripe as they shot 30 free throws to just four by the Panthers.
York is back in action Saturday afternoon as Bethel College visits the Freeman Center for a 3:00 pm tip off.
