SALINA, Kan - York College led by ten with just under a minute left before a 5-0 run by the Coyotes made it a tense game with 30 seconds to go. York made free throws down the stretch to come away with the 91-84 win.
Johnny Cooksey (SR/Shreveport, La) led the pack of four Panthers to score in double figures with 19 points. Keith Mack (JR/Chicago, Ill) was right behind him with 17 of his own. Both Chris Smith (SO/Dallas, Texas) and Cameron Coleman (SR/Allen, Texas) added 13 a piece as Coleman also brought in a team high nine rebounds. York shot 54% from the field and outrebounded the Coyotes 32-29.
York's bench also provided a much needed lift as they scored 22, while Kansas Wesleyan added just nine.
Kansas Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before the Panthers turned things on and went on a 12-0 run. York never trailed again and built a 15 point lead with seven minutes left in the first half. The Coyotes were able to climb within single digits but never were able to get within five in the second half.
York College improves to 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. They host (24) University of St. Mary on Saturday afternoon in the Freeman Center. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
