SEWARD - The Concordia Bulldogs had a tough test on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the 17 ranked York College Panthers. The Bulldogs were up to the test as they came away with the upset in the 91-77 win.
On paper it looked like the Panthers outplayed the Bulldogs in every aspect of the game. York out-rebounded Concordia 33-30, had five less turnovers, had a +10 advantage in second chance points, and outscored the Bulldogs 46-26 in the paint. The one stat that Concordia held onto was their free throw advantage. The Bulldogs had 35 free throw attempts to 12 by the Panthers. Concordia converted on 27, to the Panthers 10.
Johnny Cooksey (SR/Shreveport, La) led the Panthers with 21 points. Cameron Coleman (SR/Allen, Texas) added 18 of his own along with a team high six rebounds. Keith Mack (JR/Chicago, Ill) scored 14 points as the only other Panther to score in double figures.
The Bulldogs shot 55% from the field to York's 47%. York was down by 12 at the break and trailed by as many as 20 early in the second half.
York sits at 3-1 on the season and will travel to play Sterling College in their conference opener on Thursday.
