YORK - In a match that was dominated by the Panthers it took a late foul in the penalty area for York to secure the win Wednesday afternoon. York outshot the visiting Southwestern College Moundbuilders 20-7 but were unable to crack the back of the net until a foul in the 64th minute allowed Johann Derick (FR/Antigua) the opportunity to score the game winning goal for the Panthers. York had several close chances as the Builders' defense had four saves on the goal line that the keeper was unable to reach, as they tried to sneak out the win. But the high pressured offense finally came through as a late tackle received the whistle from the center referee.
Joao Falco (SO/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Jacob Rodriguez (SO/Aurora, Colo) each led the Panthers with four shots a piece, three on frame. Ighor Tavares (SR/Joinvile, Brazil) picked up his second consecutive shutout while collecting four saves in the match.
York hosts a tough Tabor College team this Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Cornerstone Sports Complex. The team sits at 5-6-1 on the year and currently holds down the seventh spot in the conference standings.
