The men's and women's cross country team opened up their seasons down in Hutchinson, Kansas at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic this past weekend. As a team the men finished 11 out of 15, while the women didn't have enough to compete as a team.
Madeleine Martinez (FR/San Antonio, Texas) and Hailey Stigger (FR/Liberty, Mo) both ran well as they competed in their first collegiate race. Martinez finished 39 out of 101 runners with a time of 21:02 in the three mile race. Stigger finished 52 with a time of 21:25. Hannah Rohda (FR/Omaha, Neb), competing in her first cross country race ever, finished the race in 22:00. Ariel Warrior (JR/Boys Ranch, Texas), battling an injury, was the other Panther runner competing for the women's side and finished in 23:18.
On the guys side newcomers Zachary Cayton (FR/Phoenix, AZ) and Logan Kaliff (FR/York, NE) led the team finishing in 41 and 57 place out of 117 runners, respectively. Other runners to finish for the men were Caleb Magner (JR/York, Neb), 61, Mason Held (SO/West Fork, Ark), 69, Levi Swenson (JR/Benkelman, NE), 70, and AJ Hamm (JR/McCool Junction, Neb), 115.
Head Coach Justin Carver said, "as a team we still have some kinks to get out; we will continue to get strongers as the season goes on. thought Madelein and Hailey both ran well, getting the early jitters out of their system. Zach and Logan did well for their first college race."
